It's no longer all about hammers and nails. Home improvement and design projects now also require a little help from tech tools. Below are our five favourite apps to help you get the job done.

Houzz

One of our favourite design apps at the moment is Houzz. This app will help you plan all your home design and improvement projects. You can easily search by room, style, and more and see over 10 million photos in the app. The coolest part is the augmented reality that shows you exactly how furniture would look in your home. Besides pictures, you also have access to lots of articles and videos to give you ideas for your home projects.

Pinterest

If you're looking for home decor inspiration, then you need to download Pinterest. Not only does it give you endless design ideas, but it also helps you keep those ideas organized. Are you looking to renovate the kitchen? Search for "kitchen decor" on Pinterest to create a board using posts by paint companies, furniture stores, home decorators or just decor enthusiasts in general.

Dulux Visualizer

When you choose paint colours, you may have difficulty imagining which colour would look best on your walls. Apps can help show how a colour would look in your home before buying a can of paint. Dulux Visualizer lets you use your camera or a photo on your phone to match a colour you like to a paint colour. Use your camera within the app to get an idea of how that colour will look in your home.

SketchUp

SketchUp is so immersive it will feel like you are moving through your future home. If you want a software that will help bring every aspect of your design to life, this is it.

HomeByMe

HomeByMe allows brands to add their products to its catalogue, which means you'll be using actual products to furnish and decorate your home. You can switch from 2D to 3D after you've finished your floor plan to get a feel of each room.
